Nana
Typical height: 6m
Typical culm diameter: 4cm
Growth habit: Upright, very tight clumping
Temperature tolerance (minimum): -4°C Prefers warmer climates
Origin: Thailand
An stunning bamboo with very small leaves, upright growth habit and near solid culms.
This bamboo is not always striated (as in photos below), but dont be surprised if culm striations appear - especially in younger shoots.
There is some confusion about both the name of the bamboo and its origin. It is most widely known as Bambusa nana, however it is sometimes put under the species 'multiplex' - this is incorrect, as it is distinctly different from all the multiplexs. In actual fact, it probably shouldnt even fall under the Bambusa genus, as it is more closely related to the Thyrsostachys genus, originating from Thailand.
This bamboo is a new addition to the Bamboo Land collection. Though the Nana has actually been in Australia for many years, it has not been widely available to the public until now. This is a difficult bamboo to propogate, thus stock is limited and prices will remain high for the foreseeable future.
Its a beautiful ornamental and a must have for serious garden enthusiasts.
