An attractive Australian rainforest tree with dark glossy leaves and masses of yellow and red flowers during summer. Flowers attract lorikeets. Valuable timber. Good strong tree in high wind areas. A popular street tree in parks and gardens.

The seeds should be regarded as poisonous and not eaten. Aboriginal people have been reported as eating the seeds but only after careful preparation involving leaching in water and roasting.

The timber is strong and durable, and useful for carving, cabinet making and general purpose.
