Tabashir Bamboo
Typical height: 20m
Typical culm diameter: 10cm
Growth habit: Tight clumping, slightly weeping tops
Temperature tolerance (minimum): -2°C
Origin: Malaysia
The lower internodes contains small amounts of Tabashir, an important ingredient in many Chinese medicines.
It produces good quality timber which is said to be resistant to borers. Used widely in Malaysia and Indonesia as a building material and for furniture.
Tight clumping.
The culms sheaths tend to stay on the culms for several years, which for some people makes the plants look quite interesting, but for others it makes the plants look a bit untidy.
