A good timber bamboo with straight green culms and black striation. (Java black in reverse).
This bamboo produces dense, heavy thick walled timber, thus very strong (and usually very straight) timber poles. Since it grows to a maximum of 10cm in diameter, its a perfect size for furniture making, fences, etc.
The black striations are retained after the timber has dried, which gives any building project an unmistakable identity.
The watupawan is widely used in Java for furniture and construction.
