Bambusa nutans

A nice bamboo with straight strong (near solid) culms and edible shoots. It has a very tight clumping growth habit and slightly weeping tops with lush foliage. Some of the culms may have a cream striation on the lower inter-nodes.

Also known as Mai bong, Burmese Timber Bamboo or Nodding Bamboo. It is a medium sized graceful and ornamental and evergreen bamboo, with white rings forming on culms below each node, suitable for bamboo collectors and plant enthusiasts.

Tender new shoots are cooked and eaten. The culms being near solid and straight are used for house construction, poles and a source of fibre which is used extensively for the making of paper in India, Bangladesh and Thailand.
