The rhizomes are not considered edible, however they are used in Indian and Sri Lankan traditional medicines as a remedy for bronchitis, cough, respiratory ailments, diabetics, asthma and arthritis. Laboratory tests in Sri Lanka have also concluded that the rhizomes have strong aphrodisiac qualities (at least in rats).

May be grown in full sun provided plants are given adequate water, though plants will look their best when provided with afternoon shade. For further information about planting, care and maintenance.
