Cryosophila warscewiczii (Silver Star Palm)
A very attractive palm with star shaped leaves which are silvery white on the undersides. The trunks get very distinctive 'spines', which are actually formed from roots coming from the lower trunk.
Typical height: 5 to 10 meters when fully grown
Climate: Prefers tropical or subtropical climates, or indoors in cool climates
Light conditions: Part shade
Growth habit: Solitary
Growing conditions: Moist well drained soil
Origin: Central America
These palms come from limestone areas in Central America. Because of this, they like to grow in an alkaline soil.
