The national tree of New Caledonia. A must have gorgeous variety with highly ornamental 'stiff' looking foliage. Large and robust, solitary growing palm with a swollen crownshaft, surrounded by arching dark green fronds with thick, wide and shiny leaflets. Produces small purple flowers, followed by small round green fruit which turn red when ripe.

Chambeyronia macrocarpa w red fronds

By: on 26 August 2022
This is a very nice unobtrusive palm. The fronds are deep red for c. 4 to 7 days after unfolding. Thereafter the fronds droop and all form a nice circular pattern c. 3-4 mts dia. Our tree is slow growing in not good soil (too much clay) w 3 maybe 4 new fronds per year and is c. 6 mts high after 10-15 years in Sydney. It won't pique the neighbors.
