Heliconia pendula 'Bright Red'
A great heliconia for slightly shady areas of the garden, with dark green foliage and slender pendulous bright red flowers. More cold tolerant than many heliconias, it reliably produces colour through the cooler months when most tropical plants are quiet.
Typical height: 2 to 2.5m
Climate: Prefers tropical or subtropical climates, or warm protected areas in Temperate climates (eg. Coastal Sydney)
Light conditions: Full sun to part shade
Growth habit: Clumping, slightly weeping foliage
Growing conditions: Moist well drained soil, rich in organic matter
Flowers: Winter
Great for cut flowers. Prefers moist, well drained soils rich in organic matter. Part shade or protection from the hot afternoon sun. Grows well in cooler climates.
