George Hewitt, an Australian doctor and plant collector, imported it into the country in 1960 and planted it in the grounds of Bellingen hospital, where it still grows today.

White jacarandas are sterile and the seeds they produce will revert back to the common purple form. It is relatively drought tolerant once fully established.
