Alocasia macrorrhizos

The Alocasia macrorrhizos is truly a must in any tropical garden. Its large upright leaves which can grow up to 1m in length provides excellent texture contrast in a tropical garden, whilst also offering good shade to smaller growing under-story plants.

Synonyms (AKA): Cunjevoi, Giant alocasia, Giant Taro

 

Typical height: 1.5 to 2.5m
Climate: Prefers tropical or subtropical climates, or warm protected positions in temperate climate.
Light conditions: Part shade / shade
Growth habit: Clumping
Growing conditions: Moist well drained soil
Origin: South East Asia and North QLD

A flowering plant with large glossy upright leaves which can get up to 1m in length. The large showy leaves have predominant veining on the undersides of the leaves. Well suited to tropical gardens with with some protection from high winds and full sun. 

NOTE: All parts of this plant are toxic if ingested and the sap can irritate the skin.
