Alpinia caerulea

A very hardy native Australian ginger. White shell-like flowers which finally produces clusters of blue berries. Roots and berries were traditionally eaten by Aboriginal people.

Climate: Quite cold tolerant. Grows well in most parts of Australia.

Growth habit: Tight clumping, upright
Growing conditions: Well drained soil, rich in organic matter

A good bush tucker plant, the fragrant white flowers are followed by blue berries. The new leaf shoots and berries have a mild ginger flavour and can be used in cooking, or eaten fresh from the plant.
